SKLIG Classic is ... to be determined e\\\\

The golf "get together" was inaugurated in 1993 as an organized response to a desire amongst some of my friends to get together more often (in southern Ontario). A day of golf followed by a dinner was considered the ideal venue for such a gathering. It was an outdoor event that could accommodate a wide number of participants at various skill levels in a social atmosphere. Our 1993 event had minimal prizes but every participant received a memento keepsake of the day and participants were asked to contribute food or donations that could be sent back to a needy Kirkland Lake charity. The "Little Assistance" program was subsequently selected as the as the charitable organization/benefactor. We had 37 participants for our inaugural event which raised several large food hampers and forty some dollars for charity. From its inception, the S.K.L.I.G. Classic was intended to be an event that would be held every two years. By holding this event every two years we would ensure that it would be better attended and more anticipated than if it were an annual function.
1995 marked our second S.K.L.I.G. Classic event and for the first time we solicited K.L. and friendly southern Ontario businesses to advertise their business on each of our golf holes. That year we had 71 participants and raised more than $550.00 for charity.
With our 1997 event we had 88 golfers coming from as far as Calgary, making 1997 our most successful event ever and proved that the S.K.L.I.G. Classic has become a legitimate K.L. reuniting function that has been very much anticipated. We have become better organized and more professional looking with each event. The 1999 event raised $1,600.00 and we finally cracked the 100 participant barrier! With that encouragement we have continued to improve our communication to K.L.er?s and X-K.L.er?s and friends worldwide with the inception of this easy to remember www.sklig.com website.
For SKLIG 2007 we proudly announced that the SKLIG Classic would support the charitable work of the Kirkland Lake and District Hospital Foundation for the first time in our history. The Foundation is a registered charitable foundation that relies upon community support. It is run by volunteers and funds special initiatives in facility upgrades and patient care that is not covered through government funding.
